in los angeles after holding two fundraisers in the city last night. he's got three more in san francisco today. and we learned over the weekend that the obama campaign brought in 1$181 million in september. the largest one-month haul of this campaign. 6,000 obama supporters paid at least $250 each to join the president at a star-studded concert in downtown los angeles. the lineup included katy perry, stevie wonder, jon bon jovi and jennifer hudson. president obama praised them all while poking fun at himself. >> and everybody here is incredible professionals. they're such great friends. and they just perform flawlessly night after night. i can't always say the same. >> reporter: it was the first public acknowledgment that his debate performance wednesday night might not have been the strongest. earlier sunday on "face the nation" campaign strategist david axelrod admitted the president wasn't completely happy with his showing. >> the president is his harshest critic. without getting into detail, i think you can assume that he's reviewed the tape. and it will inform -- it will inform how

to points north like new york city and boston, their day off to a rocky start because of this power outage. now, it's primarily affecting amtrak service, although we are seeing an impact to mark service north of baltimore as well. as for amtrak, the 448 acela express to boston as cancelled, the 5:30 northeast regional was cancelled also the express to new york. that gate is listed as closed. we have the 6:30 regional to newark cancelled so we're seeing big delays, big cancellations and inconveniences to travelers headed on amtrak points north from union station this morning. we did speak to a commuter who had a 9:30 meeting in new york city. he looked up at the board here and saw his train was not going to be leaving and so he's scrambling to try to figure out another way to get to that meeting this morning. mark train also points north of baltimore impacted. they have crews working on the situation. we'll update you later on in the show. megan mcgrath, news 4. back to you. >>> controversial ads supporting israel now on display in some metro stations. yesterday the transit agency put up th

gathering around the city of benghazi in libya, they were worried if an american face was on that operation, if it was too much seen as america leading another war in the middle east, that they might not pass that resolution in the united nations security council. and so the idea was they needed to put some of the arab and other countries out in front and that the obama administration needed to lead from behind in passing that united nations resolution. so that was the context. i always thought, frankly, it was simply a matter of strategy, the phrase to me was always a little bit more machiavellian rather than announcing that they weren't going to take a leadership role in the world. of course, politically it's not something you would necessarily brand your foreign policy with. and republicans have really seized on it almost immediately and every republican has used it to slam obama ever since. but i hasten to add the specific context is very different than what most republicans describe. >> the article was an excellent article. i remember it well. you and i were on that same trip to north

very cool out across big chunk of the country. 50 over in denver. 59 in rapid city and even cool ouof cleveland, temperatures in the 40s. 53 in new york city. that is for a strong cold front pushing eastward bringing cooler weather in parts of canada through portions of midwest, great lakes and across the northeast. so very cool air down from canada. in parts of the northeast we are dealing with effects from the cold front, showers in pennsylvania and across some of the great lakes. we have a heavier batch of showers move across the new york city area and parts of massachusetts and connecticut. so we had to deal with heavy downpours. there is a bit of a lull but there are areas of drizzle in northern parts of new jersey and upstate new york. at we head to the southeast, it's not producing a lot of rain. light drizzle across parts of the western carolinas. big impact is the cooler air mass that is settling on in. tonight, very cold out across parts of the plains. not as bad in parts of iowa and missouri. last night we were talking about temperatures below 30 degrees, now a little bette

is the bone-chilling temperatures. a cold snap is gripping roughly two-thirds of the country. dozens of cities saw record lows over the weekend. the midwest in an early deep freeze including in sioux city, iowa, where they're bottoming out at 15 degrees. alexandria steele is live in the extreme weather center. good morning. >> good morning to you, soledad. it certainly is cold around the country. all right, yesterday alone, 170 record low high temperatures, meaning the afternoons were well below average. st. louis only 51, should have been 68. places that should have been in the 60s were well below average. so freeze threat today. you can see kind of how widespread it is from the upper midwest to texas through the mid-atlantic. places like ohio, running about a week and a half ahead of schedule with their first freeze. it's well below average and certainly a little bit earlier than normal. coldest thus far of the season, we saw it begin last week in the northern plains and upper midwest. now migrating into the south and east. today really kind of the coldest of the low and then temperatures wi
